8.A second angel followed and said, “The great city of Babylon has fallen! This is the city that made all nations drunk and immoral. Now God is angry, and Babylon has fallen.”
9 Finally, a third angel came and shouted:
Here is what will happen if you worship the beast and the idol and have the mark of the beast on your hand or forehead.
10 You will have to drink the wine that God gives to everyone who makes him angry. You will feel his mighty anger, and you will be tortured with fire and burning sulfur, while the holy angels and the Lamb look on.
11. If you worship the beast and the idol and accept the mark of its name, you will be tortured day and night. The smoke from your torture will go up forever and ever, and you will never be able to rest.
12 God's people must learn to endure. They must also obey his commands and have faith in Jesus.
6 Je vis un autre ange qui volait par le milieu du ciel, ayant un Évangile éternel, pour l`annoncer aux habitants de la terre, à toute nation, à toute tribu, à toute langue, et à tout peuple.
7 Il disait d`une voix forte: Craignez Dieu, et donnez-lui gloire, car l`heure de son jugement est venue; et adorez celui qui a fait le ciel, et la terre, et la mer, et les sources d`eaux.
8 Et un autre, un second ange suivit, en disant: Elle est tombée, elle est
tombée, Babylone la grande, qui a abreuvé toutes les nations du vin de la fureur de son impudicité!
9 Et un autre, un troisième ange les suivit, en disant d`une voix forte: Si quelqu`un adore la bête et son image, et reçoit une marque sur son front ou sur sa main,
10 il boira, lui aussi, du vin de la fureur de Dieu, versé sans mélange dans la coupe de sa colère, et il sera tourmenté dans le feu et le soufre, devant les saints anges et devant l`agneau.
11 Et la fumée de leur tourment monte aux siècles des siècles; et ils n`ont de repos ni jour ni nuit, ceux qui adorent la bête et son image, et quiconque reçoit la marque de son nom. 12 C`est ici la persévérance des saints, qui gardent les commandements de Dieu et la foi de Jésus.
Why all these terrible warnings? The things we do not understand! Beast, idol, the mark, Babylon. We wish to be died before this time come. This is how some Christians think, and this is the answer of the majority of preachers, to lift up the members moral, “Just have faith in the Lord, his love will save you, those things are too difficult to understand.” That is not true! God revealed everything to his people.
God does not want a single person to be lost; He does not want anyone to miss the joy of eternal life with Him. He longs for your obedience, your love. That is why God sends angels with the most solemn message ever proclaimed.
Pourquoi tous ces avertissements terribles? Les choses que nous ne comprenons pas! Bête, idole, la marque, Babylone. Nous souhaitons être morts avant que ce moment vienne. Voici comment certains chrétiens pensent, et ceci est la réponse de la plupart des prédicateurs, pour lever le morale des membres, “Ayez juste la foi dans le seigneur, son amour vous sauvera, ces choses sont tres difficile à comprendre.” Ce n'est pas vrai! Dieu a révélé tout à son people.
Dieu ne veut pas qu’une seule personne soit perdue; IL ne veut pas qu’elle manque la joie de la vie éternelle avec lui. IL désire ardemment votre obeisance, Votre amour. C'est pourquoi Dieu envoie des anges avec le message le plus solennel jamais proclamé.

The dragon.
Revelation 13: 1-2
1. I looked and saw a beast coming up from the sea. This one had ten horns and seven heads, and a crown was on each of its ten horns. On each of its heads were names that were an insult to God.
2. The beast that I saw had the body of a leopard, the feet of a bear, and the mouth of a lion. The dragon handed over its own power, throne, and great authority to this beast.

They are symbolic systems images used in the biblical language to indicate certain powers. Symbolic imagery.
The Bible tells us about the controversy between Christ and satan, it has been going on for almost 6,000 years. It started in heaven with the rebellion of Lucifer against God’s rule of the universe. That beautiful angel who coveted the position of God himself, brought discord in heaven. The immediate result of the discord was war in heaven with the conclusion of the complete expulsion of Lucifer from the presence of God and the Loyal Angels.
The following verses will let us know much about what took place in heaven and will tell us whom the dragon is.
Revelation 12: 7-12
Michael Fights the Dragon
Michael is another name of Jesus. (See Daniel 12: 1)
7 A war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels were fighting against the dragon and its angels. 8 But the dragon lost the battle. It and its angels were forced out of their places in heaven 9.and were thrown down to the earth. Yes, that old snake and his angels were thrown out of heaven! That snake, who fools everyone on earth, is known as the devil and satan. 10 Then I heard a voice from heaven shout,
“Our God has shown his saving power, and his kingdom has come!
God's own Chosen One has shown his authority. satan accused our people in the presence of God day and night. Now he has been thrown out! 11 Our people defeated satan because of the blood of the Lamb and the message of God. They were willing to give up their lives. . (Revelation 12.11, the blood of the Lamb or “ Christ's death on the cross.”)
12 The heavens should rejoice, together with everyone who lives there. But pity the earth and the sea, because the devil was thrown down to the earth.
he knows his time is short, and he is very angry.”
No more was the fallen angel to be known as Lucifer, but satan which means “adversary”
Therefore, the dragon is this old snake, called devil and satan.

Ce sont des images symboliques utilisées dans le language biblique pour designer certaines puissances.
La bible nous raconte l’histore de la grande tragédie entre le Christ
et satan, qui continue depuis pres de 6.000 ans à nos jours. Elle a commencé dans le ciel avec la rébellion de Lucifer contre la loi de Dieu de l'univers. Ce bel ange qui a convoité la position de Dieu a apporté la discorde dans le ciel. Le résultat immédiat de la discorde à causer la guerre dans le ciel qui a culminé à l'expulsion complète de Lucifer devant la présence de Dieu et des anges fidèles.
Les versets suivants nous apprendront beaucoup de choses sur ce qui a eu lieu au ciel et nous dirons, qui est le dragon.

IL n'exista plus l'ange connu sous le nom de Lucifer, mais satan qui signifie" l’adversaire”
Le dragon est donc ce serpent ancien, appelé le diable et satan.

Who is the beast?
We find the answer in the book of Daniel.
Daniel’s Vision of the Four beasts. Daniel 7:3-8
3. When suddenly four powerful beasts came out of the sea. Each beast was different. 4. The first was like a lion with the wings of an eagle. As I watched, its wings were pulled off. Then it was lifted to an upright position and made to stand on two feet, just like a human, and it was given a human mind.
5 The second beast looked like a bear standing on its hind legs standing on its hind legs: Or “higher on one side than the other” or “with a paw lifted up.”It held three ribs in its teeth, and it was told, “Attack! Eat all the flesh you want.”
6 The third beast was like a leopard—except that it had four wings and four heads. It was given authority to rule.
7.The fourth beast was stronger and more terrifying than the others. Its huge teeth were made of iron, and what it didn't grind
with its teeth, it smashed with its feet. It was different from the others, and it had horns on its head—ten of them.
8 Just as I was thinking about these horns, a smaller horn appeared, and three of the other horns were pulled up by the roots to make room for it. This horn had the eyes of a human and a mouth that spoke with great pride.

Daniel 7:17 let us know that the four beasts are four earthly Kingdoms.
In conclusion, the beast represents here a Kingdom or a King.
In the Bible prophecy, a beast represents a kingdom, an institution, or a power, just as the United States use the eagle to represent them.
Based on the clear description, which John gives of this beast power, Bible scholars down through the years have identified the beast as the Roman Catholic Church. No other power so precisely fits the specifications of the prophecy.
In a dream, God revealed to Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, what will happen in the future. We find the story in Daniel 2. In fact, The King saw in the dream a big Image formed of many metals and each representing a Kingdom.

Dans la bible L’Esprit de prophétie nous fait comprendre que, une bête représente un royaume, un établissement, ou une puissance, juste comme les Etats-Unis emploient l'aigle pour les représenter.
Basé sur la description claire, que John donne de la puissance de cette bête, Les Etudiants de la bible au cours des années ont identifié la bête comme l’église catholique romaine. Aucune autre puissance ne s'adapte tellement avec précision aux caractéristiques de la prophétie.
Dans un rêve, Dieu révéla à Nebuchadnezzar, Roi de Babylone, ce qui se passera à l'avenir. Nous trouvons l'histoire dans Daniel 2. En fait, Le roi a vu dans le rêve une grande image formait de plusieurs métaux et chacun représentant un royaume.
This is the interpretation of the image. Daniel 2.
The head of the golden image is clearly identified as the kingdom of Babylon (626-539 BC.) in verse 38. From history, we know that the other three Kingdoms following Babylon were:
Media-Persia (539-331 B.C). B.C means Before Christ
Greece (331-168 B.C.),
And Rome (168 B.C - 476 A.D.). A.D means after Christ
Here we have four Kingdoms, which represent the four beasts we saw earlier in Daniel 7.

Au commencement ils étaient dix royaumes comme les dix cornes de la bête (Rome païenne) dans Daniel 7:7-8. We will keep our focus in the fourth Kingdom, Rome. Although the Roman Empire ruled longer than the other three Kingdoms put together, it was not succeeded by a fifth world power but was divided up into many different Kingdoms of varied strength, symbolized by the feet of iron and clay, just as the prophecy had predicted. These are the nations that make up modern Europe, nations that, to this day, exist as separate national and political entities.

Initially they were ten Kingdoms as the ten horns of the beast
(pagan rome) see Daniel 7:7-8. However, the little horn (papal rome) pulled three of them, Heruli, Vandals, and Ostrogoths; they were uprooted by the little horn power at the time it was arising.
Keep in mind that, (pagan rome is the Roman Empire, headquarters of the Catholic Church)
(papal rome is the high authority of the Catholic Church, the pope, the vatican, born inside the Roman Empire, this small horn that rose among the ten horns)
Fourth Kingdom reign
(Pagan Rome 168 before Christ- 476 after Christ).
(Babylon means confusion, sin, used here to indicate pagan Rome)
Christians were persecuted in the period of Pagan Roman Empire (the fourth beast herself), shed innocent blood more than any other establishment, which existed in this world, it is impossible to form a complete design of the multitude of its victims. ` To have professed that Jesus exists with his Father, the living God who is the King of kings, million people were killed, the majority of them were Apostles and prophets. Remember John the Baptist, who was beheaded by King Herod. A King put in place by the Roman Empire.
- It was Rome that brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem to enroll for taxation, and there Jesus was born (Luke2:1-5, 11). (God prediction and plan)
- Rome, through Herod tried to destroy Jesus while He was an
Infant. (Matthew 2:3-8) (Read Revelation 12: 1-6)
- And Rome, under Pilate, put Christ to death sealed his tomb
With a Roman seal, and guarded it with a Roman guard.
Papal Rome power process
(The little horn) (476 - 538 after Christ)
Emperor Justinian constitutionally recognized it. He proclaimed by decree that the pope is the visible head over all churches everywhere. During this time, Heruli, Vandals, and Ostrogoths were destroyed by the Papal Rome, because, they refused to accept his power. Therefore, Papal Rome reigned from 538 until 1798 when he was wounded.
As the pagan Roman Empire, the Catholic Church shed innocent blood more than any other establishment, which existed and exists in this world. It has continued the massacre where the pagan Roman Empire had stopped and it always kills and has a better plan to kill in the future in a massive way. It is impossible to form a complete design of the multitude of its victims. ` To have professed that Jesus exists with his father, the living God who is the King of the kings. And that they are the only ones who have the power to forgive and save, also that the ten commandments are the same ones as those which were given to Moses, million people were killed, the majority of them were apostles, prophets, pastors, and believers.
That is why the United States of America was founded in September 25, 1789; the first meeting took place in New York where the constitution of America was made. The constitution was based on God’s law, but now, it is modified.
Christians were escaping because of the massacres, which took place in all Europe and they arrived in America, when there was not a formed country in this land without civilization. However, persecutors (papacy) had followed the persecuted and they are involved in any part of American government and those around the World. Especially in Capitol Hill (political Center of the USA) to take freedom from America and from the World. They are known as the main power of Catholic Church “Opus dei” “The Work” The Papacy.
Revelation 13 indicates that just before Jesus returns there will be a worldwide federation of religion united in a common cause. The power of the civil authority will be utilized to sentence to death those who refuse to worship the beast and its image (see Revelation 13:15). A crisis is coming in which everyone must choose to worship God and be saved with the risk of facing the death decree of men as in the chapter of Daniel 3. This chapter let us know that, God saved the three friends of Daniel and He will do the same thing to those who will remain faitful to Him until the end. On the other hand, to worship the beast and its image, thus exposing himself to the punishment of God.
Their objectives are as follows:
The devil’s agenda
• To take off the Holy law of God around the world.
• To put again in place the Sunday law, and to demand everyone to worship in that day.
• To worship the beast and its image, to have her mark in the forehead.
• This is the massive killing plan; anyone who will oppose this plan will be automatically killed.

Jewish and Christian Bible students for many centuries have long interpreted the prophesy’s book of Daniel and Revelation in this manner.
Many centuries ago, one of England’s greatest political thinkers wrote:
“If a man considers the orign of this great ecclesiastical dominion, he will easily perceive that the papacy is no other than the ghost of the deceased Roman empire, sitting crowned on the grave thereof.”

C’ est pourquoi, à cause de cette persecution, les Etats-Unis d'Amérique ont été fondés le 25 septembre, 1789. La première réunion a eu lieu à New York où la constitution de l'Amérique a été faite. La constitution a été basée sur la loi de Dieu, mais maintenant, elle est modifié.
Les chrétiens se sont évadaient à cause des massacres qui avaient lieu dans toute l'Europe et sont arrivés en Amérique, quand il n'y avait pas un pays formé sur cette terre sans civilisation. Cependant, les persécuteurs (La papauté) avaient suivi les persécutés et maintenant ils sont impliqués dans tous les domaines du gouvernement américain et ceux du monde. Particulièrement dans Capitol Hill (Centre politique des USA) pour supprimer la liberté de l'Amérique et celle du monde. Ils sont connus comme la puissance principale de l'église catholique “Opus dei” "le travail" la papauté.
L’Apocalypse 13 indique que juste avant le retour de Jésus Il y aura une fédération mondiale de religion unie ayant une cause commune. La puissance de l'autorité civile sera utilisée pour condamner à mort ceux qui refusent d'adorer la bête et son image (voir l’Apocalypse 13:15). Une crise vient dans ce Monde et chacun doit choisir d’adorer Dieu et être sauvé avec le risque de faire face au décret de mort fait par des hommes comme dans le chapitre de Daniel 3.
Ce chapitre nous fait savoir que. Dieu a sauvé les trois amis de Daniel et IL fera la même chose à ceux qui resteront fidèle à lui jusqu'à la fin. D'autre part, d’adorer la bête et son image, de ce fait s'exposant à la punition de Dieu.
Leurs objectifs sont les suivants:
L’agenda du diable
• Enlever la loi sainte de Dieu dans le monde entier.
• Mise en place de la loi du dimanche pour une seconde fois, et exiger chacun de nous d’adorer en ce jour.
• Adorer la bête et son image, avoir sa marque sur le front.
• Ceci est le plan massif de massacre. Celui qui s’opposera, sera automatiquement tué.

Les étudiants de Bible juifs et chrétiens depuis plusieurs siècles interprétaient longtemps les livres de prophesy de Daniel et d'Apocalypse de cette manière.
Plusieurs siècles avant, un des plus grands penseurs de la politiques de l'Angleterre a écrit :
“Si un homme considère l'origne de ce grand dominateur ecclésiastique, il trouvera facilement que la papauté n'est autre que le fantôme du décédé empire Roman, couronné et assise sur la tombe de celui-ci.” __ Thomas Hobbes, Léviathan.
The Bible said that the papacy was wounded, (wounded here means died). In fact, the 1260 years rule of the papacy continued exactly in accordance with the time prophecy. From A.D. 538, when the sword of Belisarius elevated pope Vigilius as universal pontiff, to the time when the sword of the chief army of France Berthier took the pope pius VI into custody from office, in 1798, was exactly 1260 years.
1260 years = a time, two times, and half a time. Daniel 12: 5-7
A year in the Bible has 360 days. So, add up:
A time= 360 + Two times 720 + Half a time 180 = 1260 days.
A day for God means a year and a year means also a day. (Ezekiel 4:4-6) That is how you have this figure of 1260 years.
Berthier entered Rome on February 10, 1798, and proclaimed Rome to be a republic. The aged pontiff refused to violate his pledge by recognizing it, and was hurried from prison to prison in France. Broken with fatigue and sorrows, he died on August 17, 1799, in the French fortress of Valence, aged 82 years.
At that particular time, the papal Rome was mourning, it lost his power and goods. However, the Bible says in Revelation that it was healed.

The papacy is a religious power, and the man at its head that is both the center and the key to the whole organization is the pope. Without him, there would be no papacy. It is the religion of a “man.”
La papauté est une puissance religieuse, et l'homme à sa tête qui est le centre et la clef à l'organisation entière est le pape. Sans lui, il n'y aurait aucune papauté. C'est la religion d'un "homme."

2. Thessalonians 2:4
4. He will brag and oppose everything that is holy or sacred. He will even sit in God's temple and claim to be God.
As you can see in the verse below, to claim to be God, was a Blasphemy and is a terrible sin, punishable to death by lapidation. But Jesus is God the Son, one with God the Father with God the Holy Spirit. Jewish leaders were blind!
John 10: 29-33
29. My Father gave them to me and he is greater than all others. No one can snatch them from his hands, 30 and I am one with the Father.
31 Once again the Jewish leaders picked up stones in order to kill Jesus. 32 But he said, “I have shown you many good things that my Father sent me to do. Which one are you going to stone me for?”
33 They answered, “We are not stoning you because of any good thing you did. We are stoning you because you did a terrible thing. You are just a man, and here you are claiming to be God!”
God is Spirit, the angels are too. However, God is the King of the spirits, because, He created all spirits to receive glory from them. He also created us and gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us, thus, He will be able to glorify Himself if we obey Him. In order to be glorified you must create a spirit or human body, which is, only a flesh, to live inside.
satan who is the bad spirit cannot create anything.
Consequently, he wants to use us in order to curse our God and to be glorified. Look closely in your church, people who are selfish, boastful, opposing all that the church does, they are under the control of the devil,
the devil employs them to curse God and to glorify himself on God‘s Throne. Nevertheless, pay attention to those that God send to be opposed to the church and to bring her a message from God because she behaves badly. Such are prophets, you have the charge to examine them, the bible says so and indicates also how to examine them.

1 Dear friends, don't believe everyone who claims to have the Spirit of God. Test them all to find out if they really do come from God. Many false prophets have already gone out into the world, 2 and you can know which ones come from God. His Spirit says that Jesus Christ had a truly human body. 3 But when someone doesn't say this about Jesus, you know that person has a spirit that doesn't come from God and is the enemy of Christ. You knew that this enemy was coming into the world and now is already here.

19. Don't turn away God's Spirit 20. Or ignore prophecies. 21. Put everything to the test. Accept what is good 22. And don't have anything to do with evil.

Comme vous pouvez voir dans le verset ci-dessous, prétendre être Dieu, est un blaspheme, un terrible péché, punissable à la peine de mort par lapidation. Mais Jésus Christ est Dieu le Fils, un avec Dieu le Père et avec Dieu le Saint-Esprit. Les chefs juifs étaient aveugles!

Dieu est Esprit, les anges sont aussi. Cependant, Dieu est le Roi des esprits, parceque, Il a créé tous les esprits pour recevoir la gloire d'eux. IL nous a également créés et nous donne le Saint Esprit pour vivre dans nous, ainsi, IL pourra se glorifier si nous l'obéissons. Afin de se glorifier, tu dois d’abord créer un esprit ou un corps humain, le corps humain qui est seulement la chair, pour vivre à l'intérieur.

En conséquence, il veut nous employer afin de maudire notre Dieu et se glorifier. Regardez étroitement dans votre église, les gens qui sont égoïstes, vantard, s’opposant à tous ce que fait l’église. Ils sont sous le controle du diable, le diable les utilise pour maudire Dieu et se glorifier au dessus du Trône De Dieu. Néanmoins, faites attention à ceux qui, Dieu envoient pour être opposés à l'église et pour l’apporter un message de Dieu parcequ'elle agit mal. Tels sont les prophètes, vous avez la charge de les examiner, la bible indique ainsi et indique aussi comment les examiner.

1 Bien-aimés, n`ajoutez pas foi à tout esprit; mais éprouvez les esprits, pour savoir s`ils sont de Dieu, car plusieurs faux prophètes sont venus dans le monde. 2 Reconnaissez à ceci l`Esprit de Dieu: tout esprit qui confesse Jésus Christ venu en chair est de Dieu; 3 et tout esprit qui ne confesse pas Jésus n`est pas de Dieu, c`est celui de l`antéchrist, dont vous avez appris la venue, et qui maintenant est déjà dans le monde.

13 It worked mighty miracles, and while people watched, it even made fire come down from the sky.
14 This second beast fooled people on earth by working miracles for the first one. Then it talked them into making an idol in the form of the beast that did not die after being wounded by a sword. 15 It was allowed to put breath into the idol, so that it could speak. Everyone who refused to worship the idol of the beast was put to death. 16 All people were forced to put a mark on their right hand or forehead. Whether they were powerful or weak, rich or poor, free people or slaves, 17 they all had to have this mark, or else they could not buy or sell anything. This mark stood for the name of the beast and for the number of its name.
18 You need wisdom to understand the number of the beast! But if you are smart enough, you can figure this out. Its number is six hundred sixty-six, and it stands for a person.

The Revelation 13:11 says:

The verse 12 says:
12 It worked for the beast whose fatal wound had been healed. And it used all its authority to force the earth and its people to worship that beast.
Regarding this beast which came out of the ground, it has two horns as the Lamb of God, but it is not the Lamb of God, because, it speak like a dragon (like the devil). Moreover, the scholars of the Bible and all historical books identified it as an eagle. It came out of the ground and the ground was without formed country and civiliastion. It worked for the first beast (The papacy) whose fatal wound had been healed. In fact, papal Rome is using this beast to perform its plans.
The verse 14 says:
14. This second beast fooled people on earth by working miracles for the first one. Then it talked them into making an idol in the form of the beast that did not die after being wounded by a sword.
This beast, which came out of the ground, will make an idol in the form of the first beast (the pope) that did not die after being wounded by a sword. In addition, by its authority will force the whole world to worship that beast.
In Revelation 13: 1.
We read:
1. I looked and saw a beast coming up from the sea. This one had ten horns and seven heads, and a crown was on each of its ten horns. On each of its heads were names that were an insult to God.
This Beast coming up from the sea as we saw earlier is Roman Empire where the little horn (The papacy) came from. The sea has water, in the prophetic term in the Bible, one of the meanings of water is People. This beast came among formed countries, Europe.
L’Apocalypse 13:11 dit:

Le verset 12 dit:

Concernant cette bête qui est sortie de la terre, elle a deux cornes comme l’Agneau de Dieu, mais elle n’est pas l’Agneau de Dieu, parce que, elle parle comme un dragon (comme le diable). D'ailleurs, les théologiens et tous les livres historique l'ont identifié comme etant un aigle. Elle est sorti de la terre et cette terre était sans pays et civiliastion formés. Elle travaillait pour la bête (la papauté) dont la blessure mortelle avait été guérie. En fait, Rome papale emploie cette bête pour exécuter ses plans.
Le verset 14 dit:
14 Et elle séduisait les habitants de la terre par les prodiges qu`il lui était donné d`opérer en présence de la bête, disant aux habitants de la terre de faire une image à la bête qui avait la blessure de l`épée et qui vivait.
Cette bête, qui est sorti de la terre, fera une idole sous forme de la bête (Le pape) qui n'est pas morte après avoir été blessé par une épée. En outre, par son autorité forcera le monde entier pour adorer cette bête.
Dans l’Apocalypse 13: 1
Nous lisons:

Cette bête montant de la mer comme nous avons vu plus tôt, est l'empire romain d'où la petite corne (la papauté) est venue. La mer a l'eau, dans le terme prophétique employer dans la Bible, l'une des significations de “l'eau” est “ les personnes.” Cette bête est venue parmi les pays formés, L'Europe.
The mark of the beast will be the special point of controversy (see Revelation 13: 16, 17). The beast and its image through decrees try to force everyone to accept this mark. The third angel of Revelation 14 warns of horrible consequences from God to those who worship the beast and its image or who receive the mark of the beast.
Qu’ est-ce que la marque? Comment la recevons-nous?
La marque de la bête sera le point spécial de polémique (voir l’Apocalypse 13: 16. 17). La bête et son image par des décrets essayent de forcer tout le monde d’ accepter cette marque. Le troisième ange de l’Apocalypse 14 avertit des conséquences horribles de Dieu à ceux qui adorent la bête et son image ou qui reçoivent la marque de la bête.
What is the mark? How do we receive it?
The angel draws a sharp contrast between those who receive the mark of the beast and those who keep the commandments of God.
Daniel 7: 25, KJV, in describing this same power, says it shall
“Think to change times and laws.”
Only one of God’ ten Commandments deals with time. Has the Roman Church attempted to change this Commandment?
YES!
God’s commandment reads:
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God, in it you shall not do any work,… for six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day, therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:8-11)
Rome has substituted Sunday, the first day of the week, for the seventh-day Sabbath (Sabbath day period: From the evening of Friday to the evening of Saturday ,this is the Seventh day, the Sabbath, the time frame our Lord Jesus did in the tomb and was raised early Sunday morning, the first day of the week.)

Rome, in fact, admits the change to be her work, the mark of her authority.
In a letter written for Cardinal James Gibbon by his chancellor,
November 11, 1895, we read:
“Of course the Catholic Church affirms that the change of the Sabbath to Sunday was her act. It could not have been otherwise, as none in those days would have dreamed of doing anything in matters spiritual, ecclesiastical, and religious without her. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.”
God says the Sabbath is a mark of loyalty to Him, which identifies His people.
“And I commanded them to respect the Sabbath as a way of showing that they were holy and belonged to me.”
(Ezekiel 20: 12). CEV.
But notice one important point.
Sunday-keeping is not yet the mark of the beast. No one today has received this mark. However, they are preparing those who worship in Sunday to integrate easily when the time of the mark will come.
The mark of the beast can come only:
When the image of the beast has been formed and when it enforces the observance of Sunday on pain of death. Revelation 13: 15-17 predicts that this will happen.
The great confederacy of religion and civil authority will combine to enforce obedience to the beast and its image by law.
When the issue is thus clearly drawn, and men weigh the claims of God against the claims of men, only then can a person choose to receive the mark of God or of the beast.
The main issue is one of fundamental loyalty to God. Men must choose whether they will obey the Lord of heaven and earth or whether their obedience will go to the enemies of God.
L'ange dessine un contraste important entre ceux qui reçoivent la
marque de la bête et ceux qui gardent les commandements de Dieu. Daniel 7 : 25. KJV, en décrivant cette même puissance, il dit qu'il
" il Pensera de changer les temps et les lois."
Seulement un des dix commandements de Dieu a affaires avec le temps.
L'église romaine a-t-elle essayé de changer ce commandement?

Le commandement de Dieu dit :
“8 Souviens-toi du jour du repos, pour le sanctifier.
9 Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage. 10 Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l`Éternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni l`étranger qui est dans tes portes. 11 Car en six jours l`Éternel a fait les cieux, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est contenu, et il s`est reposé le septième jour: c`est pourquoi l`Éternel a béni le jour du repos et l`a sanctifié.”
(exode 20:8-11)
Rome a substitué dimanche, le premier jour de la semaine, pour le Sabbat le septième-jour (La période du Sabbat: De la soirée de vendredi à la soirée de samedi, c’est le septième jour, le Sabbat, la tranche de temps que notre seigneur Jésus a fait dans le tombeau et a été réssuscité dimanche matin tôt, le premier jour de la semaine.)

Rome, en fait, admet d’avoir changer le jour comme marque de son autorité.
Dans une lettre écrite au cardinal gibbon James par son chancelier, Novembre 11, 1895. Nous lisons ceci:
"Naturellement l'église catholique affirme que le changement du Sabbat au dimanche était son acte. Il ne pourrait pas avoir été autrement, car aucun en ces jours n'aurait rêvé de faire n'importe quoi au sujets spirituel, ecclésiastique, et religieux sans elle. Et l'acte est une marque de son autorité ecclésiastique dans les choses religieuses."
Dieu dit que le Sabbat est une marque de fidélité à lui, ce qui identifie son peuple.
“12 Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats comme un signe entre moi et eux, pour qu`ils connussent que je suis l`Éternel qui les sanctifie.”
(Ezekiel 20: 12). SEG.
Mais notez un point important.
L’observance du Dimanche n'est pas encore la marque de la bête. Personne aujourd'hui n'a reçu cette marque. Cependant, ils sont entrain de préparés ceux qui adorent le dimanche pour les intégrer facilement quand le moment de la marque viendra.
La marque de la bête peut venir seulement:
Quand l'image de la bête a été formée et quand elle impose l'observance du dimanche sous la peine de mort. Apocalpse 13: 15-17 prévoit que ceci se produira.
La grande confédération de la religion et de l'autorité civile combinera pour imposer l'obéissance à la bête et son image par la loi.
Quand l'issue est clairement ainsi dessinée, et les hommes pèsent les réclamations de Dieu contre les réclamations des hommes, alors seulement en ce temps là qu’une personne pourra choisir de recevoir la marque de Dieu ou de la bête.
L'issue principale est la fidélité fondamentale à Dieu. Les hommes doivent choisir s'ils obéiront le Seigneur du ciel et de la terre ou si leur obéissance ira aux ennemis de
Dieu.

13 Si tu retiens ton pied pendant le sabbat, Pour ne pas faire ta volonté en mon saint jour, Si tu fais du sabbat tes délices, Pour sanctifier l`Éternel en le glorifiant, Et si tu l`honores en ne suivant point tes voies, En ne te livrant pas à tes penchants et à de vains discours, 14 Alors tu mettras ton plaisir en l`Éternel, Et je te ferai monter sur les hauteurs du pays, Je te ferai jouir de l`héritage de Jacob, ton père; Car la bouche de l`Éternel a parlé.
Apocalypse 14: 12
12 C`est ici la persévérance des saints, qui gardent les commandements de Dieu et la foi de Jésus.

Isaiah 58: 13-14
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Revelation 14: 12
12 God's people must learn to endure. They must also obey his commands and have faith in Jesus.
By worshiping in Sunday, you are disobeying God and missing your blessing, you are breaking the law of God.
God says:
“And I commanded them to respect the Sabbath as a way of showing that they were holy and belonged to me.”
(Ezekiel 20: 12). CEV.
This is the identification for all Disciples of Christ. If you do not have this identification of God’s people, you will receive the one of God’s enemies and fit to be punished by God. That means, you will be burn in the lake of fire with the devil and its demons.
This is the spiritual mark. That means, to obeir God your Createur by keeping his Commands and you will conserve his mark that was given to you before the foundation of the world,
“The blood of Jesus Christ.”
Remember what our Lord Jesus said in the gospel of Matthew 5: 17, 20 CEV.
17 Don't suppose that I came to do away with the Law and the Prophets. I did not come to do away with them, but to give them their full meaning. (The Law and the Prophets: The Jewish Scriptures, that is, the Old Testament)
20 You must obey God's commands better than the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law obey them. If you do not, I promise you that you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.
En adorant le dimanche, vous désobéissez Dieu et perdez vos bénédictions, vous violez la loi de Dieu.
Dieu dit:
"ET je les ai commandés de respecter le Sabbat comme une manière de Prouver qu'ils étaient saints et m’appartenaient."

C'est l'identification de tous les disciples de Christ. Si vous n'avez pas cette identification des enfants de Dieu, vous recevrez celle des ennemis de Dieu et boirez du vin de la fureur de Dieu. C’est-à-dire que, vous serez brûle dans le lac de feu avec le diable et ses démons.
Ceci est la marque spirituelle. C’est à dire, obeir Dieu votre Createur en gardant ses Commandements et vous conserverez sa marque qui vous a été donné avant la creation du monde,
“Le sang de Jésus Christ.”
Rappelez-vous ce que notre seigneur Jésus a dit dans l'evangile de Matthieu 5: 17. 20
17 Ne croyez pas que je sois venu pour abolir la loi ou les prophètes; je suis venu non pour abolir, mais pour accomplir.
20 Car, je vous le dis, si votre justice ne surpasse celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n`entrerez point dans le royaume des cieux.

16 All people were forced to put a mark on their right hand or forehead. Whether they were powerful or weak, rich or poor, free people or slaves, 17 they all had to have this mark, or else they could not buy or sell anything. This mark stood for the name of the beast and for the number of its name.
18 You need wisdom to understand the number of the beast! But if you are smart enough, you can figure this out. Its number is six hundred sixty-six, and it stands for a person. #666
The first step is to force people to have the spiritual mark. After, those who have this spiritual mark (that means, breaking God’s law), of the beast will automatically receive the physical mark to be recognized officially as God’s enemies. Therefore, they can buy, sell, work and do anything else, knowing that, they will have to give all their resources, their wives, husbands and children to the Beast. Homosexuality and the pedophilia will be officially recognized.
But, to those who will remain faithful to God, they will be persecuted; they will lose their right to live. Jesus said; “when bad people will set up the horrible thing that brings destruction, flee in the mountains… get out of Babylon my people!” You do not need to remain here in United States where you will be persecuted.
The Horrible Thing
Matthew 24: 15-21
15. Someday you will see that “Horrible Thing” in the holy place, just as the prophet Daniel said. Everyone who reads this must try to understand! 16 If you are living in Judea at that time, run to the mountains. 17. If you are on the roof of your house, don't go inside to get anything. 18 If you are out in the field, do not go back for your coat. 19 It will be a terrible time for women who are expecting babies or nursing young children. 20 And pray that you will not have to escape in winter or on a Sabbath. This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again. 22 If God does not make the time shorter, no one will be left alive. But because of God's chosen ones, he will make the time shorter.
Remember, the United States was founded because people fled from persecution which took place in all Europe, you too have the right to flee from United States and go anywhere in this World. It is true that the persecution will involve the whole world, but, remaining in the United States or in the so-called emancipated world where all things are in the computer, social security number, discount shopping card, credit card and so forth, you will be easily arrested.
Because, when you use your card in an electronic machine, for example the credit card, at the same time your informations is retransmitted in the whole world.
Jesus said, flee in the mountains. You may say, in the mountains they are not food and only wild animals live there.
Jesus also said,
“No one can live only on food. People need every word that God has spoken.” Matthew 4: 4. CEV.
He also said,
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and all things will be given to you,” that means: We must first obey God and He will take care of us. If He says to run in the mountain, let us run, He will take care of us there,
As He took care of Israel and Moses to the desert. The history let us know that, a food unknown to our fathers, called "Manna" fell from the sky each day.
In addition, their clothes and sandals had never been worn out. In the desert, there were no industries of factory. Israelites wore same clothing and sandals during 40 years. (See Exodus 16)

Some christians are already out of the so-called emancipated world, living in the countries where there are only green nature, and others living here are preparing themselves by building houses in those places, waiting the right time to flee! You should think in the same way!

Rappelez-vous, les Etats-Unis ont été fondés parce que les gens fuyaient la persécution qui a eu lieu dans toute l'Europe, vous avez aussi le droit de fuir des Etats-Unis et d'aller n'importe où dans ce monde. Il est vrai que la persécution impliquera le monde entier, mais, restant aux Etats unis ou dans le prétendu monde émancipé où toutes les informations sont dans l'ordinateur, numéro de sécurité sociale, carte d'escompte , carte de degré de solvabilité (Credit Card) et ainsi de suite, vous serez facilement arrêté.
Parceque, lorsque vous utilisez votre carte dans une machine électronique, par exemple la carte Bancaire, au même moment vos informations sont retransmises dans le monde entier.
Jésus dit, fuyez dans la montagne. Vous pouvez dire, dans la montagne il n’y a pas de nourriture et seule les animaux sauvages vivent là-haut.
Jésus a également dit,
4 Jésus répondit: IL est écrit: L`homme ne vivra pas de pain seulement, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu. Matthieu 4: 4
IL a dit aussi,
"Cherchez d'abord le royaume de Dieu et toutes les choses vous seront données.”
Ceci signifie que: Nous devons d'abord obéir Dieu et IL prendra soin de nous. S'IL dit de fuir dans la montagne, courons, IL prendra soin de nous là-haut comme IL a prit soin d’Israel et de Moïse au desert. L’histoire nous fait comprendre que, une nourriture inconnu de nos pères, appelée “Manne” tombait du-haut du ciel chaque jour.
En plus, leurs vêtements et sadales n’avaient jamais étaient usés. Dans le desert il n’y avait pas des industries de fabrique. Les Israeliens ont portés les meme vêtements et sadales pendant 40 ans. (Lire Exode 16)

Quelques chrétiens sont déjà hors de ce prétendu Monde émancipé, vivant dans les pays où il y a seulement la nature verte, et d'autres qui vivent ici se préparent en construisant des maisons dans ces endroits, et attendent le premier signe de persecution pour fuir. La Marque de notre Dieu est son Nom, le Nom et le Sang de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et le Nom du Saint-Esprit.
C'est pourquoi, nous avons été baptisés et ceux qui se repentent reçoivent le baptême de la bible au nom du Père, du Fils et du
Saint-Esprit. (Mathieu 28: 19-20)

5-6 He turned to the other six men and said, “Follow him and put to death everyone who doesn't have a mark on their forehead. Show no mercy or pity! Kill men and women, parents and children. Begin here at my temple and be sure not to harm those who are marked.”
The men immediately killed the leaders who were standing there.
7 Then the Lord said, “Pollute the temple by piling the dead bodies in the courtyards. Now get busy!” They left and started killing the people of Jerusalem.
8 I was then alone, so I bowed down and cried out to the Lord, “Why are you doing this? Are you so angry at the people of Jerusalem that everyone must die?”
9 The Lord answered, “The people of Israel and Judah have done horrible things. Their country is filled with murderers, and Jerusalem itself is filled with violence. They think that I have deserted them, and that I can't see what they are doing. 10 And so I will not have pity on them or forgive them. They will be punished for what they have done.”

If you do not feel that you need a Savior and claim the salvation through faith in Jesus and worship Him in the Sabbath (Saturday), you will be lost and fit to be burned with the devil and its demons in the fire which never stop!
Dear reader, please, claims salvation today by having faith in Jesus, He is the only one who can save you.

Bringing Back the past.
These are examples about what took place in the United States of America regarding the Sunday law observance.
In English:
George Washington had been forbidden to continue his journey by horseback to New York City, to take the oath as the first president of the United States. He had been stopped by a Connecticut highway official because he was traveling on Sunday. Fortunately he had left Mount Vernon early enough to make it in time. A few days later in April 30, 1789, at Federal Hall, New York City, he was sworn in as the first president of the United States.Yes, there were Sunday laws back in the colonies. And, because all must obey them, a State church was the result.The Virginia Sunday law of 1610 mandated that attendance at “divine service was required of all citizens, religious or irreligious, every Sunday morning, and again in the afternoon to divine service, and catechizing, upon pain for the first fault to lose their allowance for the whole week following, for the second to lose the said allowance, and also to be whipped, and for the third to suffer death.” __ Peter Force, Tracts Relating to the Colonies in North America, Vol. 3, No. 2, 10-11.
Later, in 1830, when a Federal Sunday Law was urged, the matter was carefully studied by a special committee of the House. The decision of that bipartisan committee deserves our careful thought today: “Banishment, tortures, and death were inflicted in vain to stop its [the Christian religion’s] progress.
But many of its professors, as soon as clothed with political power, lost the meek spirit which their creed inculcated, and began to inflit, on other religious and dissenting sects of their own religion, persecutions more aggravated than those which their own apostles had endured.”__ Special House Report, U.S. House of Representatives. March 4-5, 1830
In 1889, Day Conklin, of Bigcreek, Georgia, was arrested and found guilty of chopping wood on Sunday. The family had just finished moving to a different house and a rainstorm had soaked much of their possessions. Then the weather turned bitter cold, and Conklin chopped wood that morning to provide some heat for his suffering famly. The fine and court cost amounted to $83. Yet, as soon as the trial was over, some of those testifying and voting against him went home and, immune to arrest by friends, chopped wood for themselves the following Sunday morning.
But all through those tragic years and in the years since then, the Sunday laws that have been enacted have all been on the local or state level, some states always have them.
The key legislation had not been passed. That legislation would be a clear-cut National Sunday Law. But such Congressional legislation is on its way. Recent events make that clear. And, when the United States of America, the most influential nation in the world, mandates a common day for rest and worship, the beginning of the end will be upon us.

Important announcement regarding the Ten Commandments Day new date - May 7, 2006.

We are excited about the move we have made for the date of the First Annual Ten Commandments Day celebration. After much prayer and counsel from Godly leaders we have decided to designate the first Sunday in May as Ten Commandments Day. There were three reasons that went into our decision:
1. The tremendous interest that has been shown by individuals, churches, and ministries in both the Ten Commandments Day and the Ten Commandments Pin made it necessary for the Commission's leadership to have more time to prepare and implement changes to facilitate the added involvement.
2. With the naming of Belarmino “Blackie” R. Gonzalez as Chairman of the Ten Commandments Commission came the added involvement of a variety of media ministries and religious broadcasting leaders, many who are involved with Mr. Gonzalez in the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). The NRB's partnership with the Ten Commandments Commission has been a real blessing, because it means an abundance of broadcast resources that will help to make Ten Commandments Day a national success.
3. The leadership of the Ten Commandments Commission felt strongly that it was important to establish a date for Ten Commandments Day that coincided with the historical time period when Moses met with God on Mount Sinai and received the Ten Commandments for all mankind. The first Sunday in May is an ideal date, occurring between the Jewish observances of Passover and Pentecost.
The Ten Commandments represent the divine authority to which successful societies have submitted throughout history. They symbolize the Judeo-Christian foundations upon which America was founded, and which millions of Americans still embrace.
Ten Commandments Day, May 7, 2006, will offer us an opportunity to make a bold declaration that America is still “One nation Under God.”

The conservative religious group Opus Dei has asked for a disclaimer on the upcoming film based on the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code." Opus Dei, presented as a murderous, power-hungry sect in the novel by Dan Brown.

HOW MUCH OF THIS NOVEL IS TRUE?
The Da Vinci Code is a novel and therefore a work of fiction. While the book's characters and their actions are obviously not real, the artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals depicted in this novel all exist (for example, Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings, the Gnostic Gospels, Hieros Gamos, etc.). These real elements are interpreted and debated by fictional characters. While it is my belief that some of the theories discussed by these characters may have merit, each individual reader must explore these characters' viewpoints and come to his or her own interpretations. My hope in writing this novel was that the story would serve as a catalyst and a springboard for people to discuss the important topics of faith, religion, and history.

PARTS OF THE DA VINCI CODE DESCRIBE THE ACTIVITIES OF THE RELIGIOUS GROUP OPUS DEI. HOW DOES OPUS DEI FEEL ABOUT YOUR NOVEL?
I worked very hard to create a fair and balanced depiction of Opus Dei. Even so, there may be those who are offended by the portrayal. While Opus Dei is a very positive force in the lives of many people, for others, affiliation with Opus Dei has been a profoundly negative experience. Their portrayal in the novel is based on numerous books written about Opus Dei as well as on my own personal interviews with current and former members.
The opposition generally comes from the strictest Christian thinkers who feel the idea of a "married Jesus" serves to undermine His divinity.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA FOR THE DA VINCI CODE?
This particular story kept knocking on my door until I answered. I first learned of the mysteries hidden in Da Vinci's paintings while I was studying art history at the University of Seville in Spain. Years later, while researching Angels & Demons and the Vatican Secret Archives, I encountered the Da Vinci enigma yet again. I arranged a trip to the Louvre Museum where I was fortunate enough to view the originals of some of Da Vinci's most famous works as well as discuss them with an art historian who helped me better understand the mystery behind their surprising anomalies. From then on, I was captivated. I spent a year doing research before writing The Da Vinci Code.

My interest in secret societies is the product of many experiences, some I can discuss, others I cannot. Certainly my research of organizations like NSA, the Vatican, NRO, and Opus Dei continues to fuel my intrigue. BENEDICT XVI AND THE SUCCESSION OF PETER.
THE POPE CONFIRMED HIS SUCCESSION IN THE HEAD OF ALL CHURCHES.
On Wednesday, June 7th the pope, Benedict XVI in the course of General Audience on the term: ' Peter, the rock on which Christ founded His Church ', declared: ' Jesus was not accustomed to change the name of his disciples. He made an exception, having turned in a definite circumstance to the sons of Zebede (cfr Mark 3: 17). He never again allocated a new name to one of His disciples. He made it on the contrary with Simon, by calling him Cephas, (John 1:42) name which was translated into Greek Petros, into Latin Petrus. And it was really translated because it was not only a name; it was a 'mandate ' which Petrus received in this manner by the Lord.
The new name Petrus will return in the Gospels several times and end up supplanting the native name Simon. Particular data acquired, if we take into account that, in the Old Testament, the change of the name showed that Jesus entrusted a mission to Peter (cfr Gn 17.5; 32.28 ss. etc).
Peter will be the rock foundation on which He will pose the building of His Church; he will have the keys of the Reign of the heaven to open or close who will seem to him just; finally, he will be able to bind or untie in the direction which will be able to establish or prohibit what he will retain necessary for the life of the Church, which is and remains of Christ.
It is always the Church of Christ and not of Peter. Peter, for all times, must be the guard of the communion with Christ; he must guide the communion with Christ.

Papacy is likely to be an element of division, more than of unity and the dialogue ecumenical cannot hold account of it ".
We regret for our brothers, member of the Catholic Church, who, seems, they do not know the great handling which occurs in their Church.
The pope, usurping the title that only the Holy Spirit has, as the only representative of Jesus Christ in His Church, he has freely changed on his own, the Holy Law of God.
For example; the day of worship which is the Sabbath, (Saturday, the seventh-day of the week);
he has changed it to Sunday (Sunday, the first day of the week).
The Christians of the Catholic Church and those who worship on Sunday, must read the Bible, study it themselves, to discover the truth. This web site will help them very much according to the Holy Spirit's power.

A Catholic Dissent

Why can’t I be a good Catholic and dissent? Apparently, being a dissenter and a good Catholic are mutually exclusive. Why can’t I be both? There is no “Thou shall not dissent” commandment. Yet today it appears that anyone who does not strictly follow or agree with the rules promulgated by Rome is considered to be a bad Catholic. And this to the point that Pope Benedict XVI is apparently saying good riddance—who needs them anyway—let them fall by the wayside: they are just weeds in the field.
Why is questioning and asking about change deemed equal to heresy? It is akin to being against the war in Iraq and being labeled anti-American. This country was formed by a group of dissenters who believed strongly in freedom of speech and religion. Unquestioned, blind followership has had many a bad result historically—the Crusades and Hitler to name a few examples. Jesus Christ Himself was a dissenter. He objected to the behavior of those who observed the minutiae of the law, while ignoring its spirit. Saint Paul too was a dissenter amongst the apostles. Saint Paul made a strong distinction between the letter and the spirit of the law. Were Christ and Paul labeled as insurgents? Absolutely—and ultimately they were put to death for their beliefs.
Much has been written about the various crises within the Roman Catholic Church, including declining church attendance in Europe and North America, declining numbers of religious clergy and practices of the so-called “Cafeteria Catholics.” Recently, an article by Peter J. Boyer appeared in the New Yorker magazine addressing these issues among others. In particular he wrote about the archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, who closed one seminary and reopened a more conservative one where no dissension is tolerated. This seminary has 85 students. While this number represents an increase, it is almost inconsequential in the glare of church closings (to pay for sexual misconduct) and the rapidly declining number of priests overall. Mathematically the numbers do not add up. There appears to be no solution offered for this crisis, except to “pray for vocations” and institute a national prayer day for vocations. Forced by the paucity of priests, the church has opened its doors to allow and encourage deacons (who may be married), yet they too can only do so much. Much sacramental activity is still the sole purview of the priests.
Requests to allow priests to marry or allow women to become priests have fallen on deaf ears in Rome. Bishop Chaput, as quoted in the New Yorker, said:
“The lack of orthodoxy has already proven that it’s empty. So I can’t understand why people would want to move in that direction. I mean, all the things they’re pushing for have already been tried by mainline Protestant churches, which are shrinking in numbers. And these religious orders, where they’ve abandoned the tradition, there are no vocations, but they still talk like they’re the future. Why would they? You just have to open your eyes and see. If they have ears, they don’t hear. If they have eyes, they don’t see.”* Eighty-five seminarians hardly represent the triumph of orthodoxy. Be leery of the one who spouts contradictory statements in the face of facts.
There are no valid reasons for preventing either marriage in the priesthood or women in the priesthood. An objection to married priesthood is that having a family or spouse would dilute the priest’s devotion to serving God and the people, while celibacy allows undivided devotion. How insulting to the apostles and ministers of other religious traditions to make such pious statements.
As for women in the priesthood, an objection is that all the apostles were men. Who was more inclusive than Christ? He spoke with women from other religions, ate with women, and had women in His entourage. After He rose from the dead, He first appeared to Mary of Magdala. Coincidence? I think not. This issue is about power.
As for dissenters, they are not welcome because they threaten the social order. They make those in power pause and reconsider, which is always uncomfortable, as was shown by the firing of the editor of America magazine. The church has always had its pendulum swings, like everything else in life. The pendulum now is so far to the right that the church will apparently brook no dissent by anyone and is trying to exclude anyone who does not keep in lockstep with its teachings. History has taught us what happens when decrees are issued and people blindly follow them.
Despite Rome’s expressed support for the separation of church and state, it was a huge contributor to the reelection of President Bush by its decree, issued through bishops such as Chaput and Sheridan of Colorado, whereby they proclaimed those who voted for Senator John Kerry could be denied Communion. Instead of being proud that a Catholic could be elected to the presidency of the United States, whose humanistic values could influence how it treats and perceives humankind; the Catholic Church chose to throw its implicit support to a man whose religion was formed by a dissenter from Rome and who doesn’t “know the way.” This is the same man John Paul II tried to talk out of going to war with Iraq. Killing is killing whether it is by abortion, war, or the death penalty. Ironic is one word that comes to mind; expediency is another.
The Catholic Church today may not want dissenters, but it has them. Being a dissenter should not, ipso facto, equal being a bad Catholic. Asking for change when it is necessary, valuable, and appropriate is different, yet Rome does not appear to see the difference.
Readers will note that we labeled this very forthright piece an “opinion.” And of course it is just that. One does not have to be a Roman Catholic to appreciate the points of controversy that Katherine Knight identifies. Many of us Protestants hold to an ideal that we should be allowed to speak our minds and explain errors and differences without penalty. Like her we remain troubled that the Catholic Church so openly tried to force certain politicians to comply with church dogma on public policy issues. And yet we know that it is not unreasonable for a church, or any other membership organization, to expect conformity to its principles. I would expect any church to take steps to sever its connection with a congregant who had either ceased to support its views or openly opposed them.
But there is a bigger issue here. The Roman Catholic Church claims not only a spiritual mission but secular prerogatives. No other Christian church combines spiritual mission with a claim to civil authority. And only Islam holds its adherents with the same dynamic of eternal damnation if they reject the church. The result is a potent blend of political power and personal control which has as its agenda the global interests of this power which sees itself as above all others.
Therefore it is imperative that dissidents like Katherine Knight be heard. It is imperative that in Christian America (cultural not structural, of course) we keep alive the spirit of “Protestantism.” Surely such is in the true spirit of religious liberty. Editor.
